Dr. Jim Dobies opened South Point Pet Hospital in May 2005 and has been serving pet owners in Gaston County since 1998. Upon graduating from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine he practiced at a small animal private practice in Gastonia. He developed special interests in dermatology and allergies, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and pain management. His USDA Accreditation enables him to write pet health certificates for both interstate and international travel.
In 2001, Dr. Dobies was recognized by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA) as the Young Veterinarian of the Year. He previously served on the Executive Board of the NCVMA. Dr. Dobies currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Gaston College Veterinary Technician Program. Locally, he is a member of the Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown (Belmont) Merchants’ Association. Dr. Dobies is the past-Chair of the Stowe Family YMCA and currently serves on its board of directors.
Dr. Dobies has been influential in making low-cost spay & neuter options available to pet owners in Gaston County. South Point Pet Hospital provides complimentary services, medical supplies, and financial support to a variety of humane organizations throughout the Charlotte region.
